As throughout the rest of Russia, thanks to the tight financial situation, the health and dental care available to visitors in Vladimir, while improving, remains uneven.
Thanks to dedicated healthcare and dental staffs, a number of whom have been able to visit—and study in—Vladimir's Sister Cities in particular, good basic medical and dental care can be provided—and at a much lower cost than in Western Europe or North America. However, it is best to have medical emergency evacuation insurance coverage in case complicated procedures are needed.
While most basic medications are now in good supply, it is best to bring what you might need with you, especially any prescription drugs that you require.
Two notes of caution: (1) You should not drink the tap water—good quality bottled water is readily available (Tap water that has been heated for coffee or tea is safe). (2) You should come prepared—depending on the time of year—to deal with the area's often abundant mosquitoes (Most hotels can provide special “fumigators” that you can plug into a wall socket. These will rid your room of most flying pests). Fortunately, the mosquitoes in the Vladimir area have not been shown to carry the West Nile Virus.
